FAQ

Straight answers.

The questions people actually ask before trusting an app near their trading — answered the same way the app's own Help answers them: short, direct, and honest about limits.

Does Greenwick trade automatically?

Only if — and exactly where — you turn that on. Out of the box, nothing trades: with approval rules on, the AI writes a full trade ticket and waits for your click. At the Sentinel tier you can enable specific strategies to act on their own, and they act only inside the guardrails you set — position caps, daily-loss lockout, session cutoffs. Either way, every order passes the deterministic risk engine, and the STOP button halts everything in under two seconds.

Does Greenwick have access to my money?

No — and it couldn't. Greenwick is software on your Mac that talks to your own brokerage account with API keys stored in your own keychain. We never hold funds, never see your keys, and can't withdraw, transfer, or move money — brokerage trading APIs don't even offer that. Orders execute only in your account, under limits you control.

How is Greenwick different from other AI trading apps?

Structurally. Most products in this space are platforms: your money or your brokerage login lives on their servers, their chosen model does the thinking, and the newest ones let that model place trades in accounts they hold. Greenwick is desktop software. Your account stays at your broker with keys in your own Keychain; you choose the intelligence — seven cloud vendors, any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, or fully local through Ollama; every order passes a deterministic risk engine no model can skip; it manages only positions it opened; and it costs a flat subscription, never a percentage of your assets or your trades.

The honest tradeoff: there is no Greenwick cloud. The desk runs while your Mac runs, and your data lives — and stays — on your machine. The security page shows exactly what leaves it.

Can I paper trade first?

You can't not paper trade first. Every account starts in your broker's paper environment — live market prices, simulated dollars, zero risk. In fact, the current release trades paper only: live trading arrives in a future update, once our legal review completes, behind its own deliberate enable ceremony. Greenwick cannot drift from paper into live on its own — the capability isn't even shipped yet.

Can Greenwick guarantee profitable trades?

No, and neither can anyone else. You won't find a performance promise, a win rate, or a "beat the market" claim anywhere in Greenwick — not on this site, not in the app. What we can promise: an honest process (research that argues both sides), hard risk limits the AI can't override, and reporting that benchmarks you truthfully. Trading involves real risk of loss — read the risk disclosure.

Will Greenwick ever touch positions I already had?

Never. Greenwick manages only positions it opened itself. Holdings from before you connected — and anything you buy on your own — show a "YOURS" badge and are completely hands-off: no safety exits, no strategy trades, and STOP never touches them. If you hold a symbol Greenwick also trades, its exits are sized to its own shares only.

Do I need to understand AI to use it?

No. A first-run wizard offers three paths: run private models locally (guided setup), paste a cloud key (checked live, with a cost preview), or skip AI entirely — screening, scans, charts, guardrails, and reports all work without any AI configured. Strategies are plain-English cards; there's no prompt engineering, no configuration files.

Which AI companies can I use?

Bring a key from Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI (GPT), Google (Gemini), xAI (Grok), Mistral, DeepSeek, or Azure OpenAI — or any OpenAI-compatible service (OpenRouter, Groq, Together, self-hosted vLLM). Prefer full privacy? Run local models through Ollama. Keys are validated before saving and stored only in your keychain. One honest note the app also shows: DeepSeek processes prompts on servers in China under Chinese law — the choice is yours.

Which brokers are supported?

Alpaca today — you connect your own account with your own API keys, starting in its free paper environment. More brokers are on the roadmap; the architecture was built for it.

What data leaves my machine?

Exactly three kinds of calls, all of which you configured: your broker's API, your chosen cloud AI provider (if any — local models send nothing), and license validation. Plus a standard web request when the app checks for signed updates. No analytics, no telemetry. The full accounting is on the security page.

What does the STOP button actually do?

It immediately cancels every order Greenwick placed, turns every strategy off, and blocks all Greenwick trading — including safety exits — until you press Resume. Nothing is ever sold: your positions stay exactly as they are, yours to manage. It works from the menu-bar tray even if the app window is frozen.

How does the free trial work?

Every install gets 14 U.S. market days of everything — the full Sentinel feature set — with no card required. The clock starts with your first autonomous trade (with a 30-day backstop from setup) and counts only real trading days, so weekends and holidays don't burn it.

What happens when my subscription ends?

Greenwick goes read-only for new activity — but safety exits, reconciliation, and the kill switch stay fully live on any open positions, your data stays readable, and the updater keeps delivering fixes. We never strand your open risk to force a renewal. Cancelling stops future billing and your tier runs to the end of the paid period; details in billing & cancellation.

Is Greenwick Mac-only?

Today, yes — Greenwick is a native macOS app, signed and notarized. Windows and Linux are on the roadmap (the engine was built portable), and the beta form asks about your platform precisely so we can size that work.

What are the system requirements?

A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 12 Monterey or newer. The app itself is light — about a 50 MB download, with your data in a local database that grows modestly. You'll also want a free Alpaca account for the broker connection and an internet connection for market data.

AI is where hardware matters — and it's your choice. With a cloud key (Claude, GPT, Gemini, and more), any supported Mac is enough. For fully local, private AI through Ollama, memory is the limit: the smallest models run in 8 GB of RAM, 16 GB runs mid-size models comfortably, and 24 GB+ opens the larger ones — the setup wizard checks your machine and recommends a model it can actually run. And with no AI configured at all, the screener, scans, charts, alerts, and reports still work.

Is Greenwick investment advice?

No. Greenwick is software: it runs analysis you configured, with models you chose, on your account, inside limits you set. It doesn't know your finances, doesn't give personalized recommendations, and its output is research to evaluate — not advice to follow. Prompt One LLC is not a broker-dealer or investment adviser.
